Leah
Adult | Female | Adopted
Please help us welcome one of our newest pooches on the scene, Leah! Leah was left in a West VA shelter "drop box" without a note, and she is keeping some secrets to herself, such as her age and breed. We're estimating her to be 8-10 years old, and she weighs 36 pounds. Another big secret is why her prior family had to let a truly wonderful girl like this go.
Leah is an insta-fit dog. Her foster parents report that there was no time of transition into their home. She was clearly a member of a household in her prior life. Leah is house-trained, she walks well on the leash, and she understands several hand signals, such as sit, stay and come. When you talk to her, she often cocks her head to the side and appears to be listening intently to what you are saying. She does a good job of picking out the words she knows (like "outside"). She rarely barks. She has full run of the house when no one is home (no crate needed for this one).
Leah's foster mom describes her as a fun dog, very sweet, very cute, and has lots of bounce in her step. Although completely sympton-free and not on any medications, Leah's recent blood work indicates that she is developing Cushing's disease. It could take months to years before becoming symptomatic, so she will need to have her blood work checked again in 6-12 months.
