Oldies But Goodies Cocker Rescue

Gingersnap

Adult | Female | Adopted

If  there was ever a dog with the odds stacked against her, Gingersnap could certainly be that dog!  Sweet Gingersnap is about 5-7 years old and in the prime of her life.  Sadly, when she arrived at OBG, she needed cherry eye surgery, an urgent dental cleaning, and extensive abdominal surgery to remove all the cancerous tumors that were threatening her life.  Wow, that’s a lot for a little dog to deal with!  Did Ginger let that get her down?  A resounding, “NO!”  Even though she has had to endure painful procedures and limited movement, Ginger’s sweet personality and perfect temperament continued to shine even during her darkest hours.

Ginger’s story is NOT one of gloom and doom but of hope and healing.  Ginger had her final surgery at the end of August with  her staples taken out about two weeks later.  Ginger’s doctor was so happy to report  that she saw NO MORE signs of cancer.  An adopter will need to watch for lumps and bumps which is good advice for all pets, not just Gingersnap.

Gingersnap is now ready and quite eager to find that forever family.  She is exceptionally friendly to everyone and even has a bit of a fearless streak.  As we would expect, she is sweet with children, but older kids would be a better match because Ginger is a bit toy possessive.

This congenial girl also gets along with all the other furkids in her foster home.  She currently lives with two other dogs in her foster home and is also a perfect lady when she meets other canines when she is out and about in her neighborhood.  Ginger will claim toys or other items that she feels have a high value (to her).  She doesn’t chew items but will drag them to her area to cuddle with.  Ginger immediately hit it off  with her feline foster siblings.  Wow, dogs, kids, and cats!

Sometimes a lady has to put her foot, or paw down to try and get her way.  Gingersnap walks well on a leash but sometimes the sights and smells deserve more than a quick sniff.  Sometimes she will put on the cocker brakes and needs a  firm verbal reminder that the walk needs to continue.

This gorgeous lady is also well-mannered in the house and has been given run of the house, even when her foster mom is gone.  She waits to be invited on the furniture or the coveted human bed.  Gingersnap will also bark at appropriate times to alert her family.  Once she has given several barks, she is good about stopping when you tell her, “Ok, thank you, that’s enough.”

Gingersnap has definitely been through many medical procedures but her prognosis is excellent! Due to her dry eye condition there has been some decrease in vision and she will need to take  daily eye drops for the rest of her life. These drops keep her eyes lubricated and healthy but she is a champ about taking them.
